Objective 1: Examine the role of diasporas in preserving culture in one country and the adoption of minority traits by host societies.
As people spread across the world, what aspects of their culture do they take with them and preserve? what aspects of their host culture filter back to their homeland and what aspects begin to merge in and become adopted by their host culture? In this section we will investigate how groups of people transfer culture around the world as they establish themselves in a new community.

Objective 2: Examine the impact of cultural diffusion on one indigenous and
remote society through the influence of international interactions.
For this section we need to find an example or case study of the impacts of culture spreading to an isolated community. For this we will study the Xingu people of the Amazon and look at the ways increased contact with more "developed" societies is threatening their traditional way of life and culture. You will need to refer to p176-7 in the text book. Use the worksheet on the right for guided study notes
