How different is the global culture? If we have a global culture dominated by the US and Western Europe, what impact could this have on local cultures. Let's explore this by comparing American culture with our local culture. Use this worksheet along with pages 144-150 of your text book to compare the two. You have to list, describe and if you like, also add pictures to explore each of the cultural aspects.

Objective 2
Examine the diffusion of cultural traits resulting from the international movement of workers, tourists and commodities.
The Geography of Superpowers. How is a global culture established? Does "Western culture" dominate the world and if so, how did this happen? In what ways do powerful countries manage to spread their influence across the world? The answers to these questions can be both obvious and surprising. In this section we will investigate these questions and look at how the superpowers of the world have attempted to spread their culture.

The diffusion of cultural traits through the mass movement of people. For this section we're going to concentrate on two ways in which mass populations move across the globe. 1) The international movement of workers, and 2) Mass tourism. To explore these areas, you are each being given a topic which you will have to research and produce a presentation for the class. Your aim is to to produce an A4 information sheet and show a 4 minute presentation to the class.

As a class you put together a wealth of good presentations on this topic providing some great examples and case studies. Here is a document that summarises these for reference

Cultural traits are also spread through the movement of goods, commodities and products. Globalisation has enabled greater availability of goods and provided a mechanism to move them around the world. As TNC's push beyond their national boundaries and seek new markets, the culture of their home nation is also exported. As demand for these new products in developing countries grows, global markets for the component parts or ingredients of these products is also affected.
