Objective 1: To develop the ability to identify and
capture human and natural features.
Lessons at the start of this unit will be mainly skills based and will not require your laptop. Instead you'll be using the older technology of paper, pencils and brains. You will be learning the art of the field sketching, which will require you to look at the environment around you with a more inquiring mind. You will have to pick out features of relevance and present them as information. You will also learn how to add to that information by providing labels and annotations.

Objective 2: To produce a fully labeled and annotated sketch.
Another important skill. We will be using the real world and photographs to identify features of interest to us as students of Individuals and Societies. We will be attempting to "read the landscape" and practice the art of making educated guesses on the significance of both natural and human features of the landscape, the reasons for them being there and how they influence us.
Objective 3: Understanding Maps
What is a map? and what is the difference between a map and a picture? We will be learning the importance of "BOLTS" in understanding the main features that a map needs to be a useful tool for us to investigate the world around us.
