Objective: Using sources to discover more about the Aztec Empire
In this section we will investigate Aztec civilisation and discover more about their beliefs and cultural practices. Within the section we will start to look at different sources we can use to discover more about things that happened in the past. As part of the section you will produce a storyboard depicting an Aztec human sacrifice. |
Objective 2: Using sources to investigate Norse people
Savage, ruthless, conquering barbarians. This is the image many people have of the Vikings and Norse people that dominated Northern Europe around 1000 years ago. But, is this perception true or are there other sides to this group of people that we are overlooking in favour of more exciting myths and legends? In this section we will investigate the life of a specific Norseman (Erik the Red) and then go on to investigate the life of these people in more detail. |
Objective 3: Can Myths tell us anything about ancient civilisations?
Greek mythology has been used as a way of explaining the world through a series of stories of adventures of different people and beings. They include gods, heroes and many strange and fantastic creatures. The stories were documented and passed down through generations as a way of understanding religion and the meaning of the world. Our question is; Other than exciting stories, what use are these myths to us today? Can they tell us about the civilisation in which they were created? its politics? the outlook of the people? their customs and pas times? |
Objective 4: Can you use sources to prove your point of view?
So far we have provided you with a lot of sources and asked you to find out what these might be telling you about different ancient civilisations. Now this process will be reversed. You are going to research a civilisation to form a decision. You will then have to research and select sources as evidence to back up your decision.
